In November, UHC introduced appointment reminders through text messaging. Confirming patient appointments through NextGen Messaging allows UHC to send communications to patients via phone and text, giving them the opportunity to confirm or cancel.

Norma Macedo, Director of Patient Programs, said, "These changes are all in line to better serve our patients by communicating with patients via diverse channels, improving access by driving new appointments, and increasing overall patient engagement and satisfaction."

UHC staff provided flu shots and handed out information about our services during a Community Resource Fair in Mendota on November 21st. About 100 people attended the evening event hosted by Kids In Need of Defense, a non-profit organization that provides free legal help to immigrant minors. The ICARE Bear, which is the official UHC mascot, posed for photographs with children and gave away sunglasses and stress balls.

The UHC Executive Leadership Team and the UHC Board of Directors met in Cambria, CA for a strategic planning conference focused on services, projects and growth planned for 2018 to 2020. This conference is an opportunity for ELT to present annual achievements and develop plans for the next few years.

UHC staff in Kerman donated complete food baskets to provide Thanksgiving feasts for two families. UHC staff presented the families with turkey, ham, rolls, rice, potatoes, gravy, corn, pumpkin pie and drinks on November 21st.

“Families were very humbled and appreciative since they had not bought Thanksgiving dinner yet,” said Aaron Aranda, HCA Supervisor.

 

UHC sponsored the team meal for the Mendota High School JV and Varsity football teams on November 3rd. The ICARE Bear, which is our official UHC mascot, celebrated the season with coaches, family and school staff. UHC staff provided complimentary tote bags filled with health resources and promotional items.

More than 150 people, including representatives of local, state and federal elected officials, joined UHC Leadership, the Board of Directors and staff in the Groundbreaking Ceremony for a new 53,000-square-foot UHC administrative headquarters building in Fresno on November 29th. Attendees enjoyed a program featuring remarks, presentations, the National Anthem, Posting of the Colors, as well as, ceremonial ground breaking and refreshments at the construction site located 3875 W. Beechwood Ave.

UHC staff took part in Community Resource Fair events organized by the office of California Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula on October 3rd in Huron, on October 10th in San Joaquin, on October 19th in Parlier and on October 28th in Sanger.

Information about education, immigration, financial literacy, activities for children, legal services, food pantries and employment opportunities was given to a combined total of about 1,000 people who attended these events. UHC staff provided free blood pressure screenings, scheduled appointments and answered questions about enrollment.

UHC staff joined community members and organizations on November 4th to celebrate Veterans Day in downtown Sanger. The 2017 Sanger Veterans Parade featured our UHC drivers in vans and the ICARE Bear, who greeted children and their families. UHC staff gave out tote bags filled with UHC information and promotional items.

The Annual UHC Employee Softball Tournament and Family BBQ brought together over 300 employees and their families at Shafer Park in Selma on October 21st. Seven teams competed and, for the fifth year in a row, “Thunder & Chopsticks” reigned in the championship. Second and third place winners were the “Hit Squad” and “Answer This!”, respectively. All three were awarded plaques.
