On Tuesday, February 6th UHC staff participated in a National Day of Advocacy in Action to advocate for full funding of community health centers in the next scheduled congressional legislative action. Staff wore red in support of the initiative and shared postings across social media platforms utilizing the hashtag #REDALERT4CHCS. UHC is a member of the Health Center Advocacy Network in support of the patients we are proud to serve.

On January 24th, UHC staff in the Kerman Health Center were presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by the Kerman Migrant Center, which is part of the Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County, Inc. The recognition, which was presented along with children’s artwork, highlighted the support received by UHC staff. UHC is proud of its continued partnership with organizations that greatly help our communities.


On January 24th, United Health Centers hosted a Grand Opening for its newest health center in Sanger located at 1570 7th Street. Kopi Sotiropulos, Co-Host of KMPH Fox 26 Great Day served as Master of Ceremonies. The AMVETS Post 98 Honor Guard along with the Sanger High School Navy Jr ROTC Color Guard partnered in the Presentation of Colors and the Sanger High Chamber Singers performed the National Anthem. Fresno Violinist Patrick Contreras delighted guests with his music through out the midday event.

Among those in attendance were Frank Gonzalez Sanger Mayor; Kristina Solberg for U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein; Matt Rogers, the Central Valley District Director for U.S. Senator Kamala Harris; Eileen De Raadt for U.S. Congressman David Valadao; Claudia Salinas for CA Senator Andy Vidak, Nicholas Sinclair for CA Assemblymember Jim Patterson, as well as, Chongtoua Mouavangsou Representative for CA Assemblymember Joaquin Arambula.

"We are very proud to open this beautiful facility in the heart of downtown Sanger and continue with our commitment to doing everything we can for our patients in the community," said Colleen Curtis, President and CEO of UHC. "As our 14th Health Center added, we are very happy about this expansion because of the people we serve and what we bring to them."

The new building downtown is more than 15,000 square feet. It features 21 medical exam rooms, 10 dental operatories, 3 optometry exam rooms, as well as, additional office space. Unique to this health center is a doctors’ lounge and rooftop patient parking. Built by Legacy Construction, it is the largest UHC site to date and it is symbolic of the UHC commitment and ongoing efforts to provide quality state-of-the-art facilities where all UHC patients receive exceptional service.


On January 26th, more than 500 people, including UHC staff, attended the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino’s monthly Community Breakfast. Tachi Palace matched every admission paid and donated all proceeds to the UHC Foundation. A commemorative check for $5,168 was presented to Pedro Santana, the Foundation Economic Development Manager, who thanked Tachi Palace on behalf of the UHC Foundation.

UHC staff took part in a celebration hosted by García’s Market in Kerman on December 12th. About 200 residents attended the Catholic celebration to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe. UHC provided 40 blood pressure screenings. “Store employees told us they were appreciative we were there because they found out about our upcoming mammogram screening in Kerman,” said Gloria Ramirez-Arías, Community Information Specialist.

UHC is proud to welcome Lorane Avalos to the Board of Directors. Lorane was born and raised in Reedley, CA and graduated from Reedley High School. She has been married for 47 years, has 4 children and 6 grandsons.
Lorane attended Fresno City College, where she received her certificate in Vocational Nursing and was licensed in 1982. She worked at nursing homes, at the Selma Hospital and briefly in industrial health. During the last 12 years of her career, she worked for Selma Dialysis.
Lorane is now retired and is a former President of the Selma Lion's Club and the Selma Catholic Women's Club. "I'm looking forward to making sure the continuity of care is there for patients."

The Breast Cancer Screening Campaign by UHC and Susan G. Komen has now helped more than 200 women throughout the Valley. The Life Saving Images mobile mammography clinic visited the Parlier Health Center and Kerman most recently. UHC is proud to play a part in this life saving campaign which makes no-cost mammograms accessible to low-income women in underserved communities.

UHC is proud to announce the addition of Sarah Guerra to the Board of Directors. Sarah was born in Fowler, CA and raised in Selma, CA. She graduated from Selma High School and attended Reedley College while working for Fowler Packing.

Sarah credits education and hard work for the advances in her career and developing the necessary skill set to become a community business owner. She and her brother-in-law launched Robertson-Guerra Insurance Agency in Selma, where it has been recognized through various awards by community organizations and businesses.

Sarah is married, has three children and is an active parishioner at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

"I bring my passion in helping individuals to the UHC Board of Directors, especially the less fortunate. I like to always intervene and help in any way I can."

Over 800 employees, family and friends celebrated another year of great accomplishments in the 2017 UHC Holiday Gala on December 9th at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore. The evening affair included dinner, a wonderful program featuring presentations for Employee of the Year, as well as, many awesome prizes and a 50/50 drawing winner.
